"Sofa So Good" on the Sweet Freaks' Nelly Rodi trend space at Maison & Objet - January 20th - 24th 2012

Inspiration Spaces in Maison & Objet trade show in Paris are never to be missed... They are human scale treasure boxes where to go lose your pragmatic trade show frame of mind, a breath of inspiration. We are very proud to announce that our Sofa So Good (by Elisabeth Buecher & Amelie Labarthe in collaboration with Ercol - Comissionned by Designersblock) will be on the Sweet Freaks space imagined by the parisian Nelly Rodi Trend studio. Come for a - visual - cuddle. Sofa So Good is so happy to go on a trip away from our studio, where he usually stands as our favourite furniture pet.

Maison & Objets - Space 1 - Hall 1 - SWEET FREAKS

Monstrous beauties - Nelly Rodi
Eccentricity is energizing our imaginations. Wild flights of fancy and offbeat whimsy are shaking up a world caught between being too orderly and unhinged. Supercharged design is experimenting with curious overlaps combining the unusual and the refined. Juxtapositions, accumulations, and subversions are creating a dizzily psychotropic style. The home is mutating into a cave of wonder

Sofa So Good will also be featured in the "CRAZY" themed inspiration book 2012-13 as well as the video.

CRAZY : Enough of gloom and doom in this crazy world! A pinch of folly and caustic humor can let imagination take the wheel. It's time to champion the right to a breath of mental fresh air, to have fun. To affirm the jubilant desire to detonate wan conformity. Quirky, festive creativity is turning to whimsy and humor. Insolence and irony, extravagance and outrageousness are sweeping away things we've all seen before. Now is the time for sweet delirium and highly euphoric abnormality. In the offbeat bazaar of our contemporary cabinet of curiosities, we don't take ourselves too seriously, and it feels crazily good.

We say it does feel crazily good !

Kilkenny Art Festival: Embracing Technology, Aug 7 - 15 2010

The annual Kilkenny Arts Festival will be showcasing cutting-edge craft at the National Craft Gallery of Ireland. The show, which runs from August 7th - 15th, includes work by Puff&Flock designers Jo Angell and Jenny Leary, among 12 other innovative makers.

Curator Angela O'Kelley writes: This year’s CRAFT strand looks to new directions and dialogues in craft. Craft artists working with cutting-edge technology and materials, conceptual craft and an inclusive, interactive exhibition are some of the highlights of this year’s programme.

The National Craft Gallery Two showcases the work of fourteen makers who are Embracing Technology. These makers push the boundaries of their craft through the inventive use of materials and technology. Combining hand-crafting with new technologies like laser-cutting, water jet cutting, rapid prototyping, motion capturing, textiles set in concrete, interactive magnetic wall coverings and site-specific textiles for walls and windows, these makers expand the potential of craft and challenge our perceptions with new ways of making dynamic forms.

It highlights the potential of technical textiles to make a difference in design. Exhibition Director Kenya Hara gathered some of the most innovative textile engineers in Japan and paired them with a visionary designer, resulting in truly magical material installations.

Alongside these collaborations, the Materials Library at Holon (iMatter) will present a colleciton of innovative textiles within the exhibition. Samples from Puff&Flock designers Kathy Schicker (Woven Light),  Jenny Leary (Ferrofabric) and Melissa French (Urban Upholstery) will be included.

Chelsea Flower Show - Gold Prize :May 25, 2010

Puff&Flock designer Jo Angell has installed her Solar Sanctuary at the acclaimed Chelsea Flower Show. She was commissioned to make the canopy for award-winning garden designer Jo Thompson. The garden is sponsored by Thrive, a charity that promotes gardening for the disabled.

Thompson's design for Thrive, called the Unexpected Garden, was designated a gold medal-winner by the judges of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The Solar Sanctuary canopy offers people protection from the sun, yet retains an aura of changeable, magical light. A double-layered system allows light to pass through laser-cut patterned holes in the outer layer, diffusing onto a secondary translucent layer. Like all Jo Angell's canopies, it's designed in a modular way so it can 'grow' to the size of the space - in this case, a bench seat area.

Ghost Train by Elisabeth Buecher: Video        May 11, 2010

Elisabeth Buecher of Puff&Flock debuted her haunting Ghost Train at Spazio Revel in Milan last month. Brave visitors were invited to explore the eerie side of textiles. They discovered a ghostly world of glowing, moving, bouncing creatures set within a dark space. The installation, made of ephemeral fabric phantoms, was captured on video by Bud Moore of Designersblock.

Many thanks to those who visited us at DesignersBlock in Milan, April 2010. We hope you weren't stuck for to long and we missed all those who couldn't make it due to an unpronounceable Icelandic volcano. We carried on regardless and had a great show with the first Puff & Flock retail venture a fantastic success! Popular items included Ayda Anlagan's crochet eyeballs which flew off the shelf selling out before the last day, Jenny Leary's X-Ray coin pouch, Kathy Schicker's colour changing buttons and Amelie Labarthe's Blhost characters. Our favorite Japanese visiting designers Masako Sato and Yuko Taguchi also proved a triumph with Mushroom Hooks and Flower Rings adorning walls and fingers all over Italy.

Puff&Flocker Amelie Labarthe has joined forces with the Italian toy designer Matteo Oliveri - the dynamic duo have started designing oversize plushes and glowing, laughing laptops, among other things. In the "Smths Lab", they combine a textile designer's tactile sensibility with a toy designer's playful approach. Their first collection included colourful characters such as Son of Taro and other creatures that charmed visitors, young and old, at the Puff&Flock shop in Milan.

Amelie and Matteo plan to continue their successful venture. They also have a flair for spotting cool vintage toys, which they collect for inspiration, and will soon be for sale on their website.
